CONCEPT NOTE

Peninsular Indian, especially the Kerala region has been long involved with the Maritime interactions with countries along the fringes of the Indian Ocean extending from the Far East to Middle East from very ancient times. These interactions have influenced Indian history, trade and socio-culture in great magnitude. Every year, research activity in countries along the fringes of Indian Ocean throws up a rich cache of data, either corroborating earlier known theories or disclosing new facets. This conference intends to bring together academicians and researchers in various countries to a common platform with a view to discuss the latest emerging facets of Indian Ocean Archaeology. The conference would have scholars from China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran and England participating. The conference proposes to have papers on various aspects of maritime exchanges or interactions, and also their socio-cultural ramifications.

Focus of the conference will be on:
Maritime and Coastal Archaeology: recent explorations and excavations
Maritime history and any other maritime activities of the human past
Ship building and Navigation
Role of history and Archaeology in facilitating maritime archaeological researches
